Day 2 – Russian Course

  It is raining today all over the Alps, so we use the day for studying local meteorology and forecast websites, watching and analyzing the gopro footage from the day before and tuning almost all harnesses afterwards. Finishing the day with the long lecture about thermals and thermaling, and even little bit about tuning the gliders.

  The skies look sunny and clear, the forecast promises quite flyable weather in Greifenburg area. Today we will go up to Emberger alm and have a task around back mountain ridge and the Weisensee lake.   Having a morning briefing at the Emberger launch. Training Day – Russian Course

  The course starts only tomorrow but all our pilots are already here at the Emeberger launch, getting ready to fly! For some of them it will be their first ever flight in Greifenburg! The conditions aren’t great: even though the winds are light SE, the overcast skies make everyone’s staying up quite difficult. Artur goes first on the red Gecko. Everyone follows right away! Only Edward isn’t flying today, having rest between the two courses he is taking part in.

Day 7 – Carinthian Course

  The day starts quite early for us today. We still have the same unstable air mass, which will cause early showers and thunderstorms in the area of Greifenburg.   Today the flying will be governed by a possibility of an early thunderstorm, so we are heading off to Emberger Alm hoping to have an early task.   The task is to fly along the valley and then jump over towards Weißensee. The sky is looking safe at the moment and the pilots receive the last hints before taking off:

  Today we have a moderate northern flow over the central part of Carinthia, which provides a promising opportunity to try out a low launch in Radsberg, south from Klagenfurt.
